GUILLERMO Söhnlein

CEO, Blue Marble Exploration

Guillermo Söhnlein is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for exploration. He is an advisor, mentor, teacher, and speaker within his three personal interest areas: space commercialization, ocean exploration, and technology innovation.

Guillermo is Co-Founder and CEO of Blue Marble Exploration and VP of Corporate Development of RBC Signals. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for NuRide, as well as the Advisory Boards for the BLUE Ocean Film Festival, Shanghai Ocean University’s Hadal Science and Technology Research Center, and Spike Aerospace. He is a member of The Explorers Club and a Fellow of the Opus Novum Foundation.

Guillermo is also an expedition leader, submersible pilot, and scuba diver. He has organized and led 6 ocean exploration expeditions involving manned submersibles. Diving in Puget Sound, Monterey, Catalina Island, and Miami, these expeditions supported scientific efforts, collected valuable data, transported scientific personnel to key sites, generated volumes of content, and garnered mass media attention. In 2012, one noteworthy expedition discovered a previously unknown sunken WWII-era Grumman F6F Hellcat fighter plane that had been lost by the U.S. Navy 70 years prior.

Previously Guillermo was co-founder of OceanGate, the OceanGate Foundation, iSpaces, and Milo (acquired by Voxeo), as well as founder of Space Angels Network, the Sea-Space Initiative (merged into the Exploration Institute), and the International Association of Space Entrepreneurs (merged into the Space Frontier Foundation).

A former officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, he earned his A.B. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law.
